Following the high energy of the title track, the makers of the upcoming romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein have unveiled their second musical offering, “Usey Kehna.” Composed by music legend A. R. Rahman, the song is a melancholic, soulful ballad that dives deep into the complex heartache at the core of the film’s relationship, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon.

The track, with heartfelt lyrics by Irshad Kamil and vocals by Nitesh Aher and Jonita Gandhi, is being hailed as the emotional heartbeat of the movie, capturing the vulnerability of the characters, Shankar (Dhanush) and Mukti (Kriti Sanon).

The Himalayan Inspiration Behind the Melody

The composer himself, A. R. Rahman, revealed the surprising and picturesque inspiration for the song’s creation.

“This next song, ‘Usey Kehna,’ was inspired from when we travelled to Himachal and witnessed the reflection of the mountains in the Ganges. Everything around inspired the creation of the melody,” Rahman shared.

This sense of peaceful, yet profound, natural beauty is evident in the song’s arrangement. It features a beautifully stripped-back soundscape, primarily relying on the piano, subtle strings, and Nitesh Aher’s raw, newfound voice. This minimalist approach lends a timeless, intimate quality to the track, allowing the listener to focus entirely on the emotional exchange.

Unpacking the “Toxic Romance”

The song’s accompanying visuals and dialogues vividly underscore the intensity of the love story, which director Aanand L Rai has positioned as a spiritual successor to Raanjhanaa.

  • Dialogue Driven: The music video opens with a poignant conversation where Dhanush’s character, Shankar, asks Mukti if she ever truly loved him, to which she tearfully responds.
  • Emotional Depth: “Usey Kehna” explores the emotional toll the tumultuous relationship takes, featuring visuals that shift between moments of pure warmth and intense emotional conflict, including scenes of shouting, despair, and vulnerability.
  • The Unspoken: Producer Bhushan Kumar noted that the song “brings out the unspoken emotions that lie at the heart of Tere Ishk Mein,” positioning it as an anthem for a love that is “constant; one that is raw, real, and deeply human.”

Fans have quickly embraced the track, with initial social media reactions calling it a “masterpiece of emotions” and the “Album of the year”, a clear testament to the powerful combination of Rahman’s music, Kamil’s poetry, and Rai’s visual storytelling.
