Bipasha Basu, once a fixture on the silver screen with hits like Raaz, Jism, Dhoom 2, and Race 2, has spent the past few years in the comforting shadows of a more personal spotlight — motherhood. While many actors often stay in the public eye through interviews and podcasts, even without current projects, Bipasha prefers to keep her voice measured and meaningful.
“I think I should do interviews when I have content to talk about. I’m very clear about that. I don’t want to make noise just like that. It’s a simple life right now,” Bipasha said recently.
Her last full-fledged cinematic outing was in 2015 with the horror drama Alone, and since then, she has kept a deliberate low profile. Reflecting on her sabbatical, she shared,
“I have worked from the age of 15, so I needed a break. When I got married, I definitely consciously stepped back. I wanted to enjoy the perks of all that I had worked hard for. Then the three years went by so fast – being in love and settling down, it was great. I don’t regret any of it.”
For Bipasha, motherhood has been a life-changing experience. Now a devoted mother to her daughter Devi, she explained how her priorities shifted.
“The decision of wanting to become a mother – that was a little difficult for me. I had to make some strong decisions, and it took me some time to do that. I had a baby, and now I don’t want to miss out on any time with my baby. Itni mehnat se bacha bada kiya hai. It’s as simple as that.”
Despite her long break from acting, Bipasha’s love for cinema remains strong. When asked if she misses the camera, she said,
“I do miss it. I love acting. I used to do it 365 days a year. I’ve done it for 20 years. So, I do miss it. And it’s (return to acting) going to happen soon.”
Bipasha is optimistic about her comeback, confident in the evolving landscape of the industry.
“I’m not worried, that’s because now it’s looking good for women. There are more opportunities, there are more platforms. There are newer ways the world is looking at women, it’s not stereotypical.”
Her journey has always been about breaking barriers. Known for bold choices and versatility, Bipasha recalled,
“I went against the tide always. And it’s always worked for me. So, I do believe that you have to live your life. The work and your life have to kind of be in balance. Mine is not right now. It’s my baby, my baby, my baby. But it is going to come. I think it is the right time. I will do it.”
Bipasha’s return isn’t just about her own passion; it’s about setting an example for her daughter Devi.
“I want to make Devi proud with meaningful work,” she said, also sharing a sweet insight about her daughter’s curiosity when people take photos with her mom, reflecting their precious bond.
As Bipasha Basu gears up for her much-awaited return to acting, fans are excited to see what she will bring to the screen next. With her strong sense of purpose and a clear vision for balancing family and work, her comeback is sure to be both impactful and inspiring.
“Over the years, Bipasha has not only won critical acclaim but has also bagged several prestigious awards including the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for Ajnabee (2001) and multiple nominations for her versatile performances in films like Corporate, Bachna Ae Haseeno, and Raaz. Recognized for her sultry glamour and fearless acting, she has also been a fitness icon, inspiring countless fans through her fitness DVDs and her advocacy of a healthy lifestyle.”
