The long-awaited mystery of Vijay Salgaonkar’s next move has finally been unraveled. On Monday, December 22, 2025, the makers of the blockbuster thriller franchise officially announced the arrival of Drishyam 3. Sticking to the series’ iconic tradition, the film is set to hit theaters worldwide on October 2, 2026.

The announcement came through a gripping one-minute-fourteen-second teaser video shared by Ajay Devgn and the production team. The promo, which has already sparked massive engagement online, features a powerful voiceover by Devgn. In his signature calm yet firm tone, he declares that while truths may vary from person to person, his only unwavering truth is his family.

The Final Chapter: Aakhri Hissa Baaki Hai

The most significant revelation in the teaser is the tagline “Aakhri hissa baaki hai” (The final part remains), confirming that Drishyam 3 will serve as the grand conclusion to the Salgaonkar family’s decade-long battle with the law.

Director Abhishek Pathak, who helmed the record-breaking Drishyam 2, returns to direct the finale. He has co-written the script with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh. According to the production house, Panorama Studios, the film is being mounted on a significantly larger scale than the previous installments, promising “heightened intensity” and “expanded canvas” for the final showdown.

Star-Studded Original Cast Returns

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the core ensemble is officially confirmed to return.

  • Ajay Devgn reprises his role as the mastermind Vijay Salgaonkar.
  • Tabu returns as the formidable IG Meera Deshmukh.
  • Shriya Saran and Rajat Kapoor will also be seen in their pivotal roles.
  • Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav return as Vijay’s daughters.

While Akshaye Khanna’s name was mentioned in some production reports, the teaser has left his exact involvement as a point of suspense for now.

Production and Global Context

The film is currently in production, with shooting underway across multiple cities. Interestingly, the Hindi announcement comes just as the original Malayalam version, starring Mohanlal, completed its principal photography in early December.

There are active discussions between the makers of both the Hindi and Malayalam versions to coordinate the narratives. Director Jeethu Joseph, who created the original story, has hinted that while the Hindi film has a fixed 2026 date, the Malayalam original might reach audiences earlier in the same year.

Box Office Expectations

The stakes are incredibly high for the finale. The first Drishyam earned ₹110 crore worldwide, while the 2022 sequel shattered records by collecting ₹342 crore globally. With the 2026 release falling on Gandhi Jayanti—a Friday—the film is poised for a massive four-day holiday weekend, potentially setting new benchmarks for the thriller genre in Indian cinema.
