Himesh Reshammiya opened his CapMania concert tour in Mumbai on May 31, delivering a nostalgic yet electrifying performance. Dressed in his signature cap and a long coat, Himesh transported his audience back to 2004, reminding them of simpler times with his hit songs and signature style.
At the concert, Himesh directly addressed his audience with his now-iconic question:
“Thoda regular gau yaa naak se?” (Should I sing in a regular style or nasally?)
The crowd roared with excitement, enthusiastically choosing his nasal style. Himesh confirmed,
“Are you sure?”
When the audience shouted “yes” in unison, he immediately delighted them with a few lines from his mega-hit song Aashiq Banaya Aapne, sung in his distinctive high-pitched nasal tone.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Himesh explained that his nasal style was intentional and played a crucial role in expressing raw emotion. “Actually, even though I call it nasal singing today, for me, it was never nasal, it was high-pitched singing. It was a cry for help! In the Aashiq Banaya video, this guy is actually crying in pain, singing, as well as dancing,” he explained.
Himesh also responded to Janhvi Kapoor‘s playful mocking of his Instagram videos on Koffee With Karan, specifically a clip where he’s working out to Tandoori Nights. He laughed it off, saying, “Yes, I know. This is a very good thing. It has been so many years but the likeability of Tandoori Nights remains. We have millions of views, the word ‘tandoori’ is very lucky for me.”
Unlike most concerts, there were no celebrity cameos on stage, but a few familiar faces were spotted in the crowd—Farah Khan, Veer Pahariya, Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee among them, grooving to Himesh’s hits.
Having made an indelible mark as a composer and singer, Himesh has also expanded his horizons into acting, with his recent appearance in Badass Ravi Kumar sparking a meme fest online.
After his successful Mumbai concert, Himesh Reshammiya will continue the CapMania tour with his next performance in Delhi on July 19.
